What is Nissan Security+Plus?
Security+Plus is Nissan's official extended coverage program. It provides coverage for qualifying mechanical breakdowns after, or in some cases alongside, the factory warranty. Depending on the plan selected, coverage may include specified vehicle components, rental reimbursement, towing and trip interruption benefits.
Contracts are administered by Nissan Extended Services North America (NESNA).
Is this backed by Nissan or a third party?
All plans are backed by Nissan Extended Services North America. Covered repairs are performed at authorized Nissan dealerships using Genuine Nissan or Nissan-approved replacement parts.
Can I buy online?
Yes. Nissan Security+Plus plans are available to purchase online in all 50 U.S. states.
Do I have to buy the plan when I purchase the vehicle?
No. Nissan Security+Plus coverage can usually be added after the vehicle purchase, provided the vehicle still meets Nissan's eligibility requirements.
Pricing and availability can change as the vehicle ages, gains mileage, or moves outside certain warranty periods.
Who is eligible for a Nissan Security+Plus plan?
Eligibility is based on the vehicle's model year, mileage, warranty status, title history, and other Nissan program requirements.
General eligibility guidelines:
- Current model year plus the prior nine (9) model years
- Maximum mileage at time of purchase: 100,000 miles
- Vehicle must have a clean title
- Vehicle must meet Nissan program requirements
Vehicles that may be ineligible include those with salvage, rebuilt, branded, or total-loss titles; true mileage unknown (TMU); voided factory warranties; frame or flood damage; vehicles outside time or mileage limits; and most commercial-use vehicles.
Ride-share use, such as Uber or Lyft, is not considered commercial use when the vehicle is privately owned and driven by the owner.
What's the difference between "New" and "Used" plans?
New Plans
Available only while the vehicle is still within Nissan's original 36-month / 36,000-mile basic warranty.
- Start date: Original in-service date
- Mileage: Begins at 0 miles
Used Plans
Available for vehicles no longer under the basic factory warranty. In many cases, a Used Plan may also be available for a vehicle that still has remaining factory warranty coverage.
- Start date: Date you purchase the plan
- Mileage: Added to your current odometer
Whether you bought your vehicle new or pre-owned does not determine the plan type. Eligibility is based on the vehicle's current warranty status, age, mileage, and Nissan program rules.
What about Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) vehicles?
Nissan Certified Pre-Owned vehicles may qualify for unique CPO Wrap coverage that extends beyond the Certified Limited Warranty.
Available CPO Wrap terms may include:
- 7 years / 100,000 miles
- 7 years / Unlimited miles
- 8 years / 120,000 miles
All CPO Wrap plans feature a $0 deductible and may qualify for 0% installment options. Coverage begins from the manufacturer's original in-service date.
Important: CPO Wrap coverage must be purchased within 90 days of certification. These plans require verification and must match the exact name and address of the CPO registered customer.
When is a Vehicle Inspection Report (VIR) required?
A Vehicle Inspection Report (VIR) is required when the vehicle is outside Nissan's Powertrain Warranty.
A VIR is generally not required when the vehicle is still covered under Nissan's Powertrain Warranty.
The inspection is used to confirm the vehicle's condition before coverage is issued. If required, the inspection must be completed by a Nissan dealer and submitted in the order page.
Where can I get the Vehicle Inspection Report completed?
The Vehicle Inspection Report must be completed by an authorized Nissan dealer.
You can schedule the inspection with the service department at any Nissan dealership. The process typically takes about one hour, although timing and inspection fees may vary by dealer. We apply an Inspection Discount for VIN's that will require it, at checkout.
The inspection form is available here for users who wish to complete it ahead of time: Vehicle Inspection Report.
Why does Nissan require an inspection?
The inspection helps confirm that the vehicle does not have existing conditions that would be excluded from coverage.
Nissan Security+Plus coverage is designed for future mechanical breakdowns. It does not cover pre-existing failures or conditions that were present before the contract was purchased.
What's the difference between Gold, Silver, and Powertrain Preferred?
Nissan Security+Plus plans are available in different coverage levels. The main difference is the number and type of components covered.
Powertrain Preferred
Powertrain Preferred provides named-component coverage for many major systems, including the engine, transmission, drivetrain, fuel system, steering, brakes, suspension, electrical components, and Nissan original equipment air conditioning components.
Silver Preferred
Silver Preferred includes Powertrain Preferred coverage, plus additional named components such as many electrical systems, power accessories, Nissan-supplied audio/navigation components, anti-lock braking and traction control components, automatic temperature control, blower motor, heater core, and certain additional steering, suspension, transmission, engine, belt, and hose items.
Gold Preferred
Gold Preferred includes Powertrain Preferred and Silver Preferred coverage, plus coverage for most other mechanical breakdowns unless the item or condition is excluded by the contract.
Gold Preferred is the most comprehensive plan and is commonly selected for vehicles with advanced electronics, comfort features, and technology systems.
You can view the Coverage Details for a side-by-side comparison.
What is generally covered?
Coverage depends on the plan selected, but Nissan Security+Plus may include coverage for many major vehicle systems.
Depending on the plan, covered components may include:
- Engine components
- Fuel system components
- Hybrid and electric vehicle drive components, excluding the high-voltage battery
- Transmission and transfer case components
- Front-wheel, rear-wheel, and all-wheel-drive drivetrain components
- Steering components
- Front and rear suspension components
- Brake system components
- Electrical components
- Nissan original equipment air conditioning components
- Certain power accessories and electronic systems
- Certain Nissan-supplied audio, navigation, and entertainment systems
Gold Preferred provides the broadest coverage and generally covers mechanical breakdowns except for items specifically excluded in the contract.
Coverage is always subject to the terms, conditions, exclusions, deductible, limits of liability, and plan level shown in the actual contract.
Are seals and gaskets covered?
Seals and gaskets are covered when they fail due to a covered mechanical breakdown, subject to the terms of the contract.
Active leakage may be covered when related to a covered repair. Seepage is not covered. The contract defines seepage as a wet seal or gasket, while leakage generally means an actively dripping seal or gasket.
Are rental, towing, and trip interruption benefits included?
Yes, Nissan Security+Plus may include additional benefits such as rental reimbursement, towing reimbursement, and trip interruption coverage.
Rental reimbursement
If alternate transportation is needed due to the mechanical breakdown of a covered part, reimbursement may be available up to $42 per day, subject to the contract limits.
Towing reimbursement
If towing is required due to the mechanical breakdown of a covered part, reimbursement may be available for towing to the nearest participating Nissan dealer, subject to the contract limits.
Trip interruption
If a covered mechanical breakdown occurs while you are 100 miles or more away from home, trip interruption benefits may apply for certain alternate transportation, meals, and lodging expenses, subject to the contract limits.
Benefits may vary by state and are subject to the terms and limitations of the contract.
Is a specific item covered, such as infotainment, ADAS, turbo, hybrid components, or air conditioning?
Coverage depends on the plan level selected and the exact component that failed.
For quick reference, review the component coverage chart. For contract terminology, review Section 4, Covered Components, and Section 8, Exclusions, in the sample contract.
Coverage can only be confirmed after diagnosis by an authorized Nissan dealer and claim review by Nissan.
What is generally not covered?
Nissan Security+Plus does not cover every part, condition, or repair. Common exclusions include maintenance items, wear items, cosmetic items, damage from outside causes, pre-existing conditions, and items already covered by another warranty or service contract.
Examples of items or conditions that are generally not covered include:
- Maintenance services required by the Owner's Manual
- Fluids, filters, alignments, adjustments, tune-ups, and brake pads
- Paint, carpet, upholstery, trim, moldings, weatherstripping, glass, lenses, and bulbs
- Tires, wheels, brake rotors, brake drums, and certain clutch components
- 12-volt battery and battery cables
- Squeaks, rattles, water leaks, and wind noise
- Cosmetic appearance, wear, cracking, or deterioration
- Seepage around seals or gaskets
- Pre-existing conditions
- Failures caused by accident, fire, theft, flood, freezing, vandalism, natural disaster, or outside influence
- Failures caused by lack of maintenance, improper fluids, overheating, sludge, misuse, modification, or non-approved parts
- Rust or corrosion
- Racing, track use, or competitive driving
- Incidental or consequential damages, such as loss of use, inconvenience, storage charges, or commercial loss
This is only a general summary. The actual contract controls coverage, exclusions, limitations, and claim eligibility.
Are hybrid or electric vehicle batteries covered?
No. Hybrid and electric vehicle batteries, cells, and modules are not covered.
This includes, but is not limited to, hybrid or electric vehicle drive propulsion batteries, such as nickel-metal hydride or lithium-ion batteries. Gradual battery capacity loss is also not covered.
Some hybrid and electric drive system components may be covered depending on the plan, but the high-voltage battery itself is excluded.
Are ADAS and advanced safety systems covered?
Coverage for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) depends on the plan selected.
For Silver Preferred and Powertrain Preferred plans, ADAS components are generally excluded. Examples may include intelligent cruise control, camera or LIDAR systems, parking sonar, and blind spot monitoring systems.
Gold Preferred offers broader coverage, but exclusions and contract terms still apply. Review the sample contract or coverage chart for plan-specific details.
Is maintenance and normal wear covered?
No. Nissan Security+Plus is not a maintenance plan and does not replace routine service.
Items such as fluid changes, filter replacement, brake pad replacement, wheel balance, alignment, headlight aiming, tune-ups, and timing belt replacement are generally not covered as maintenance expenses.
Repairs related only to loss of performance from normal wear and tear are also not covered unless an actual covered mechanical breakdown occurs.
Are pre-existing problems covered?
No. Failures or conditions that existed before the contract was purchased are not covered.
This is one reason a Vehicle Inspection Report may be required for vehicles outside Nissan's Powertrain Warranty.
Are modified vehicles covered?
Failures caused by modifications, altered components, non-approved parts, or changes from original factory specifications may be excluded.
This can include modifications to computer systems, control units, electronic modules, drivetrain components, suspension components, or other vehicle systems.
Coverage depends on the cause of failure and the terms of the contract.
Are salvage, rebuilt, branded, or total-loss vehicles eligible?
No. Vehicles that have ever had a salvage, rebuilt, branded, or similar title are not eligible.
Vehicles that have been declared a total loss by an insurance company are also not eligible. If a contract is issued on an ineligible vehicle, Nissan's liability may be limited to a refund of the amount paid for the contract.
