What Nissan Security+Plus Does Not Cover

A clear, honest look at what a Nissan Security+Plus plan does not cover, including routine maintenance and wear items, plus how component-based coverage actually works. Instant VIN quote.

Short answer: Nissan Security+Plus VSC's covers the mechanical breakdown of the components listed in your plan. It does not cover routine maintenance, normal wear items, or damage caused by outside events such as accidents or neglect. Knowing what is excluded up front helps you choose the right plan and use it well.

How coverage is defined: by component

Security+Plus is component-based. Each tier (Powertrain Preferred, Silver Preferred, and Gold Preferred & CPO Wrap) covers a defined list of components within each vehicle system, and the higher the tier, the more components and systems are included. So whether a specific part is covered depends on your tier and the listed components for your vehicle. Your plan documents are the authoritative source, and the sample contracts show exactly how this is laid out. Section 4 of the contract defines the covered components, and Section 8 lists the exclusions.

What is generally not covered

These are the common exclusions across vehicle service contracts. They are not unique to Nissan; they reflect the difference between a breakdown plan and routine ownership costs.

  • Routine and scheduled maintenance. Oil changes, filters, fluids, alignments, tune-ups, and other manufacturer-recommended services are owner responsibilities, not breakdowns.
  • Normal wear items. Things designed to wear out, such as brake pads and linings, wiper blades, tires, and light bulbs, are typically maintenance items rather than covered failures, even though the larger systems they belong to may be covered.
  • Damage from outside causes. Accidents, collision, fire, theft, vandalism, flooding, and other environmental damage are matters for your auto insurance, not a service contract.
  • Abuse, misuse, and neglect. Damage from off-road misuse, racing, overloading, contaminated fluids, or failing to perform required maintenance is excluded.
  • Pre-existing conditions. A problem that already exists before coverage begins is not covered. This is why coverage must be in place before a breakdown.
  • Non-approved modifications. Damage caused by aftermarket parts or modifications not approved by Nissan can be excluded.
  • Cosmetic items. Paint, trim, and upholstery wear are generally not covered.

Coverage details and exclusions vary by plan and vehicle, so always confirm against your plan documents.

Keep your maintenance up to date

One of the most important things you can do is follow Nissan's recommended maintenance schedule and keep your service records. Skipping required maintenance is a common reason a claim can be denied, because the resulting damage falls under neglect rather than a covered breakdown. Staying current protects both your vehicle and your coverage.

Already have a problem, a recall, or a factory warranty question?

Active breakdowns, warranty claims, recalls, and factory powertrain or CVT warranty extensions are handled directly by Nissan USA and your local Nissan dealer. A Nissan Security+Plus plan purchased here covers future breakdowns and cannot be applied to a pre-existing or active problem.

What you do get with every plan

It is worth balancing the exclusions with what is included. Every Security+Plus plan covers the mechanical breakdown of its listed components and adds benefits that help when a covered repair happens: rental-car coverage while your vehicle is in the shop, towing, and trip-interruption reimbursement when you break down far from home, with repairs completed at any authorized Nissan dealer by factory-trained technicians using genuine Nissan or Nissan-approved parts.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Security+Plus cover routine maintenance?
No. Oil changes, filters, fluids, alignments, and other scheduled services are owner maintenance, not covered breakdowns.

Are brakes covered?
The brake system components are covered according to your tier, but normal wear items like brake pads and linings are maintenance items and are generally not covered. Your plan documents list exactly which brake components are included.

Does it cover accident or flood damage?
No. Damage from accidents, collision, theft, fire, or flooding is handled by your auto insurance, not a service contract.

Why is a pre-existing problem excluded?
A Nissan Security+Plus plan covers future breakdowns. A problem that already exists before your plan begins is not a future breakdown, which is why coverage must be in place beforehand.

Where can I see the full list of exclusions?
Your plan documents are the governing source. You can also review our sample contracts before you buy.
